Yemen’s legitimate government is currently working on finalizing the arrangements for the formation of the delegation that will be participating in the Geneva consultations, scheduled on September 6, after receiving the proposed number of participants from the office of the UN Envoy, Yemen’s Foreign Minister said
Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, Khaled al-Yemani said that the number of participants in the government delegation is estimated at 14 members
They include negotiators, experts and secretaries supported by Saudi-led Coalition and under the leadership of President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and the state restoration project
Yemani explained that the formation of the team has begun since the government received the invitation of Special Envoy Martin Griffiths, in which he specified that the team should be constituted of 12 members, “six chief negotiators, three technical experts and three members of the secretariat”
Following that, the government received a request to increase the members of the government delegation to be composed of “eight key experts, three consultants and three secretaries”
The Yemeni government is currently completing the preparations and is ready to go to Geneva, and the government list is expected to be handed over to Griffiths’ office within the next two days
Yemani added that the government is in direct contact with the Envoy’s office and they are on the same page concerning the issues to be discussed and the mechanism for addressing thm
Yemani lauded Griffiths’ great experience in resolving conflicts at the European and UN levels
“He deals with consultations from a different angle, which depends on the participants and what can be accomplished at this time in the light of the great failures experienced by past peace efforts, given the intransigence of the coup militias,” he added
